対象となるのは、前年に英語で発表されたSF・ファンタジー作品。世界SF大会中に開催される授賞式にて、受賞作が発表されています。いくつかの部門がありますが、なかでも長編小説部門は40000語以上の作品が対象。「ヒューゴー賞」創設当初からの歴史ある部門で、読みごたえのあるものが選ばれているのです。
